Atlas Insider: London – the education destination

November 14, 2017

London is an education superpower. With over 3,000 schools and 47 higher education institutions, there is plenty of choice when deciding where to send your child. In The Complete University Guide’s rankings, London tops the charts across the board from primary, all the way through GCSE’s and A-levels, to university. It now boasts 14 universities in the top 500 of the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2018. In addition to topping the league tables, London’s student satisfaction rates are sky high, ranked the third best student city in the world by the QS Best Student Cities 2017. The dual benefit of outstanding academic and pastoral care makes London an exemplary city/destination for education.

The Atlas Building is ideally located to benefit from the best of London’s education institutions. Four of the UK’s top 30 schools are within commuting distance of the building – journeys now made easier following the major improvements to transport links in the area. Such as St Pauls Girls’ School, which has the highest percentage of students achieving A/A*s for GCSEs and A-levels, and is a short half hour commute from The Atlas Building.

Located on the fringe of the City of London, residents of The Atlas Building also benefit from close proximity to many of the UK’s top universities. The London School of Economics, which takes the top spot in The Complete University Guide’s London regional table and fourth in the UK overall, is a quick 20-minute tube journey away. Imperial College London, which ranks fifth in the UK-wide table with 90.3% of their students gaining a graduate job and an impressive 96.1% completing their degree, is just half an hour from the development.

Top rankings are not the only reason why London is one of the world’s top education destinations, but also in the lifestyle students enjoy whilst here, including its history and landmarks, restaurants, entertainment and green spaces. Shoreditch is home to five Michelin-starred restaurants, as well as artisan cafes and vibrant street food markets. There are also numerous museums, galleries and landmarks across London to visit throughout the year, many of which are free. With London’s combination of top schools and universities, brilliant transport links and unrivalled lifestyle amenities it is no surprise that it continues to remain a global education destination.
