Best in class design: Q&A with show apartment designer, Design Haus Liberty

July 12, 2019

We went behind the scenes with Michael Faulkner, partner at Design Haus Liberty, to find out more about these impressive interiors.

  1. What was the overall vision for the apartment?

The layout and space in the apartment is great and the views are spectacular.  With its generous proportions we saw immediately there was an opportunity to create a really sociable living space.

We always wanted to maintain the contemporary, urban feel that comes with a Shoreditch postcode, but equally, we wanted to ensure the environment was warm, relaxed and inviting.  Materials such as suede and linen wall coverings, curtains and tactile upholstery create a balanced back drop.

Shoreditch is home to a creative community, and art is always central to our projects, so the two fit together perfectly.  We naturally wanted to reflect the local atmosphere by combining interesting original artworks with furniture pieces approached as crafted sculptural objects.

  1. How did the striking architecture of the building inspire you?

The Atlas Building is such a bold building with a clean, recognisable form and we wanted the interiors to reflect this. We focused on large signature pieces, each of which has a unique identity, but combined together can create a cohesive and comfortable living experience.

  1. What makes the design unique to The Atlas Building?

The Atlas Building has some of the best views in London.   The atmosphere of the apartment – especially with its triple aspect - is constantly changing based on weather and time of day, and the sense of space is breath-taking.  This is something you only can have living at height, so we wanted to inject elements which enhance and highlight this unique experience. We introduced large, colour mirrored surfaces which reflect and capture both the sky and urban views drawing them into the internal spaces. The coloured tint in the mirrors helps abstract the views in a way that the pieces become dynamic pieces of art.

  1. What’s your favourite design piece in the apartment?

It has to be the dining table - the table balances scale, presence and weight perfectly.  The natural wood finish is simple and elegant. It can comfortably seat eight people but with its thin top and legs its scale doesn’t overwhelm the space.

Open daily between 10am and 5pm, you can be one of the first to take a look around the apartment and enjoy the breath-taking views of the city. Situated in the heart of Shoreditch, there are a range of two and three-bedroom apartments and penthouses still available, with pricing from £1,037,00 - arrange a viewing today by calling 02072054570.
