What’s on around The Atlas Building, from new restaurant openings to roof top hot spots

July 10, 2015

Moments from Old Street, The Atlas Building will stand on the axis of four diverse neighbourhoods: Shoreditch, a pioneer of urban culture and home to London’s Tech City; the City of London, a global financial and business district; Islington, a vibrant and fashionable borough; and Clerkenwell, a design hot spot which is home to more creative businesses and architects per square mile than anywhere else in the world.

From this vantage point, the development is perfectly positioned to tap into the best of London’s cosmopolitan culture and, with the summer hotting up, there is plenty to keep local residents, workers and visitors to the area busy.

Street Feast food market in Dalston Yard is now part of the staple diet of London foodies. This year, Shoreditch Yard has also been transformed into a vast street food arena called Dinerama that will run for four days a week – day and night - until 4 October. With six street diners, five street food shacks and six bars and street food trucks, Dinerama is set to be another hit. Also in Shoreditch, fifteen street food trucks and stalls will be popping up in car park off the High Street for Urban Food Fest every Saturday night until 31 October [pictured below].

Fans of James Ramsden and Sam Herlihy’s supper club The Secret Larder will be pleased to hear that they have opened a restaurant called Pidgin in Hackney. From their new permanent base at 52 Wilton Way, the duo will be serving up a set four-course menu of modern British that will change each week.

One of the most anticipated new restaurants opening this summer is Sosharu in Clerkenwell, a ‘social Japanese’ restaurant and the latest offering from by Jason Atherton, the Michelin-starred chef behind Pollen Street Social and Social Eating House.

In Islington, Tom Oldroyd – the former chef director of the popular Polpo restaurants in London – has recently opened his own neighbourhood restaurant, OLDROYD, which offers a daily changing European menu built around the best seasonal British ingredients.[pictured below].

For those looking for a culture hit are equally spoilt for choice. The Jazz exhibition at the Howard Griffin Gallery ooreditch High Street runs until 26 July and brings the worlds of art and music together through the eyes of the infamous Berlin Wall artist Thierry Noir.

Home to many famous actors and actress, it is no surprise that Islington has a thriving theatre scene. One to watch this summer is The Car Man, Matthew Bourne’s internationally-acclaimed dance thriller which is on at Sadler’s Wells until 9 August [pictured below].

No update on the summer calendar would be complete without mentioning the best rooftops in the area, especially with another heatwave forecast. For an alfresco film experience, head to Pillow Cinema [pictured below] on the roof of Wimbourne House in Shoreditch or, for outdoor cocktails and dining, Boundary Bar in Shoreditch and Coq D’Argent and SushiSamba, both in the City, are all firm favourites.
